Hippocampus breviceps

Common Names: Short Snouted Seahorse, Short Headed Seahorse, Knobby Seahorse

Hippocampus breviceps Seahorse Characteristics: H. breviceps have short snouts, irregularly developed spines. May or may not have cirri on the head and neck region. Mature males have a prominent brood pouch.

Distribution: Australia.

Habitat: Sargassum, sponge reefs in deeper water, or rock reef covered in macro algae. Most commonly found in groups, rarely as individuals or pairs.

Size: 3 to 4 inches.

Sexual Maturity: Approximately 6 months.

Minimum Tank Size Recommendations: 15 gallons for a pair, 20 to 25 gallons for 2 pairs.

Water Temperature: 65 to 69 degrees Fahrenheit. 19 to 21 degrees Celsius. A chiller is recommended for this species.
